He was in a world of his own. The shower was relaxing him, allowing him to wash away his conflicting thoughts and letting his mind just wander aimlessly wherever it so chose. Hazy images from what seemed like so many different lifetimes, none of which seemed to equate to the man staring vaguely up into the cascading water as he lathered himself up, the motions of doing so automatic.
Anna’s panicked babbling, however jolted him back into the present, the fragments of other men’s lives slipping from his grasp once more, smoke fading back into the haze. The initial shock wore of almost instantaneously, he was a man of little shame, and he gave her a cocky grin. Of all things, apparently this was what it took to draw the most genuine smile she’d managed to get from him so far.
“If you wanted a peek that bad, all you had to do was ask,” he snickered.
